This film could really be dubbed as a new age Marie Antoinette, set in the age of #MeToo and complete with some long overdue edge, an Insta-worthy blue hue filter and Oscar-winning cinematic lesbians.
The film really becomes an insult to Freddie Mercury’s legacy to paint him in such a negative light, and to have that portrayal be explicitly tied to his sexuality and AIDS status.
It’s the kind of story that many minorities may look for these days, one that focuses not on what necessarily puts them in the margins but on what makes them lovable human beings.
Beautiful Boy doesn’t fail to show how expensive drug addiction can be to a family, in the immediate price of drugs and rehab and whatnot, but also in the emotional taxes on family togetherness.
Was the film the stuff of my dreams and the greatest cinematic masterpiece of all fucking time? Sadly, no. Does that matter? Of course not, we still stan.
Telling a story of gentrification, police brutality, and implicit racial bias, this film is all at once confrontational, sometimes humorous, and beautifully poetic.
Sorry To Bother You is really radical and just what the world needs, because what other film since the turn of the century has dared to comment on the encroaching death grip of real, hardcore capitalism?
From the Tumblr fandom scrolling to the Buzzfeed quizzes to the damn K-Pop videos, I was like, “Is this ME?”
All in all, I think The Incredibles 2 was good, especially with some really fun moments and exquisite animation, but not great.
